This course focuses on all aspects of coiled tubing technology with emphasis on coiled tubing drilling techniques. Emphasis is on the preplanning as well as on number of operations concerning coiled tubing. Finally, the evaluation and economics of coiled tubing will be discussed. Several case studies of this new technology will be given. A manual will be prepared for this course. The manual will contain the objectives and questions designed to measure a participant's progress. This material will be made available as a package for use in the course.

COILED TUBING DRILLING COURSE CONTENTS
1. Coiled tubing equipment design:
Equipment identification and evaluation, coiled tubing injector head/gooseneck assembly, tubing guide, stuffing box, power-pack assemblies, coiled tubing trailer and crane system, blowout prevention system, offshore equipment, house, accumulator, reel assembly, injector, guide assembly, and data acquisition system.
Coiled tubing specifications - strip bias welding, taper design, materials, large- diameter, internal flash free, inline wireline, coatings, production strings, velocity strings, electrical applications (logging and perforating, downhole video camera), pipe calculations, do’s and don’ts.
2. Coiled tubing operations:
Job and rig-up procedures, BOP testing and rig-up, collapse pressures, tubing loads, buoyancy factors, elongation
Safety considerations (including working safely with coil tubing equipment)
Coiled tubing services companies.
3. Coiled tubing drilling techniques and applications:
Surface equipment - survey equipment, pumping equipment, and fluid return system
Bottomhole components - attaching tool, whipstock, the motor, bit, steering tool/orient tool and MWD tool
Related problems - differential sticking/drilling fluid and hole cleaning challenges.
4. Related drilling operations-milling, deviation control, fishing (tools and techniques), and cementing (design specifications and techniques including squeeze cementing), plugging and abandonment of wells.
